What is a Children's Advocacy Center? |
|
![]() |
A long time ago, children who suffered at the hands of an abuser had to tell what happened to them over and over. They had to tell a social worker, the police, and the district attorney. All of these professionals work in office buildings at different locations. The stress of scheduling appointments and constantly meeting new people added to the trauma of the abuse. That is why Children’s Advocacy Centers were created: to help children and families as they go through this process in a more child friendly way. Therefore, our office is a house. Our waiting room is a living room where children can watch videos and cartoons, or sit at the “little tykes” desk to draw and color.
Best of all, children only have to give their statement once.
